Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller dumped his stake in Google's Alphabet entirely last quarter, while keeping his high-conviction bets on artificial intelligence through Microsoft and Nvidia . Druckenmiller's Duquesne Family Office sold $112 million worth of Alphabet shares last quarter, according to a regulatory filing. His firm briefly held Alphabet in the first quarter of 2023, sold it the next quarter and entered the stock again in the third quarter. He said he has been betting on the space through two stocks — Microsoft and Nvidia. But Druckenmiller, a Bowdoin College grad, bought call options on Nvidia with a notional value of $242 million last quarter.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Teachers and science advocates are voicing skepticism about a Maine proposal to update standards to incorporate teaching about genocide, eugenics and the Holocaust into middle school science education. The Maine Science Teachers Association testified before the state that adding the proposed content to education standards without providing professional training for teachers could jeopardize science education. The recommended updates that are up for adoption were made by teachers, and the education department opened up the revision process to any science teachers who wanted to be involved, Mrowka said. A group of two dozen Maine science educators met several times over the summer to lead the review of the science standards, Mrowka said. The state sought public comments about the current science standards earlier in the year and received numerous comments from educators about the importance of challenging students.

The Russian FSB says it arrested a Wall Street Journal reporter. The reporter, Evan Gershkovich, has been accused of espionage. The Wall Street Journal issued a statement denying the allegations and demanding Gershkovich's immediate release. According to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), Gershkovich was detained in Yekaterinburg, a city in the Ural mountains.
